Camino Alliance knows that you care how information about you is used and shared, and we appreciate you trusting that we will do so carefully and sensibly. This Privacy Policy explains our practices and the choices you can make about the way your information is collected and used by Camino Alliance. It applies to donor information that we collect both online and offline.

Our Privacy Policy takes into account the requirements of the General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”) which means if you are a resident of the EU and your donor records reflect that address, you may be entitled to certain additional protections in accordance with GDPR.

What information is collected by Camino Alliance?

We collect personal information when you voluntarily submit it to us.

For example, donors may provide us with personal information (such as name, address, email address, telephone numbers and/or credit/debit card information). If a donor, or a website visitor, contacts us by email they may provide us with their email address, and name. Providing data is required in these contexts in order for us to process your donations, requests, or respond to inquiries.

In addition to the personal information that you submit to us, we may collect personal information about you from reputable third parties, or automatically collect information using the following technologies:

Web Server Logs. Our web servers may collect certain information such as IP address, pages visited, time of visits, and referring website.

Cookies. Cookies are simple text files stored by your web browser that provide a method of distinguishing among donors and visitors to the website. Camino Alliance uses cookies to identify your browser as you visit pages on the Camino Alliance website or sites in the Camino Alliance media network. Cookies also allow Camino Alliance to provide more relevant, targeted content as you travel through sites in the Camino Alliance media network as appropriate and are used on our ordering website to keep track of the items in your shopping cart.

Where do we transfer and store information?

Camino Alliance is based in the United States and Mexico, and any information transmitted to us may be stored, accessed, or processed in the United States and Mexico. Residents of some other countries, including residents of the European Union, should be aware that the laws of the United States and Mexico do not offer the same protections as the laws of your home country.

How do we use information?

We collect information primarily to accept donations, complete our charitable projects, and provide you with information concerning our programs, projects, and activities. We also use information for internal purposes (to better understand our supporter network) and for analytical purposes (to respond to requests for information or merchandise and to improve our website, donor base, and outreach). We may inform you of other purposes at the time that we collect some forms of information. For example, if you apply for a job we may collect information in order to process your job application.

With whom do we share information?

We do not trade, share, or sell information that you provide to us with other organizations who intend to use it only to market their products or services to you.

There may be instances in which we share your information with others. We may share your information, for example, in conjunction with your sponsorship of a certain project, as required by law, with law enforcement, to comply with legal process, to protect our legal rights, to protect the safety or security of a person, or to protect against fraud, criminal acts, or misconduct. We may also share your information with companies that provide us with services, or with a successor legal entity.

Our commitment to data security

To help prevent unauthorized access, maintain data accuracy, and ensure the correct use of information, we have put in place appropriate physical, electronic, and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure the information we collect. For example, we secure our machines with mandated encryption protocols to secure our user/company data. We also use industry accepted tools and techniques such as SSL and two-factor authentication to protect against unauthorized access to our systems. Additionally, all sensitive information is stored in secure repositories both in-house as well as secure cloud-based, AES encrypted web apps.

Your access to data, and your choices

If you registered to receive communications from us and later change your mind, you may ask that your name and contact information be removed from our distribution list. You can send such a request to the email or mailing addresses at the end of this policy.

Some web browsers and devices permit you to broadcast a preference that you not be “tracked” online. At this time we do not modify your experience based upon whether such a signal is broadcast.

Additional information

Behavioral Advertising. We may participate in behavioral-based advertising. This means that a third party may use technology (e.g., a cookie) to collect information about your use of our website so that they can provide advertising about products and services tailored to your interest. That advertising may appear either on our website, or on other websites.

Links. Our website may contain links to other Web sites. Please note that when you click on one of these links, you are entering another site that is governed by that site’s privacy policy.

We implement Google’s Invisible reCAPTCHA to protect our site from spam and abuse. Use of this service is subject to Google’s privacy policy and terms.

Changes to this privacy statement. We may modify this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this website. If we make a material change to this policy, and need to apply it to personal information that you provided to us before the change was made, we will attempt to contact you and obtain your consent to the change.

Our commitment to privacy

This privacy policy sets out how Camino Alliance (‘we’, ‘us’ or ‘our’ being interpreted accordingly) uses and protects the personal information about you that we collect or that you provide, whether through our www.caminoalliance.org (‘Website’) or by other means. You should also check any user terms and conditions from time to time that generally apply to use of this Website.

Changes to our privacy policy

We may modify this Privacy Policy at any time so please check that you have seen the latest version. We will aim to post changes to the practices outlined in this Privacy Policy at least 30 days prior to them being implemented.

Personal information we collect

We collect personal information from you in various ways, for example:

  • if you supply personal information when using this Website;

  • when you supply personal details in the course of registering support;

  • when you sign-up to receive newsletters or email notifications from us;

  • if you order any merchandise; and/or

  • if you raise a query or issue with us.

The type of personal information we collect includes your name, email address, home (or work) address, phone number and other personal details which you may choose to provide. Any credit card or debit card data you provide is securely handled by DonorBox as our third party payment processor (or such other third party payment processor) as we use from time to time. We never store your credit or debit card details.

We may also collect information about your use of our Website (for example, the URL you came from; your browser type and the pages of our Website that were viewed during your visit). For more information on how we do this, please see the section headed ‘Cookies’ below.

Such personal information is referred to in this Privacy Policy as ‘Personal Data.’

Use of personal data

We may use your Personal Data about you for the following purposes:

  • providing you with access to our Website as well as administering or developing Website features or content;

  • fundraising or direct marketing purposes. Where you have expressly consented to us doing so in accordance with applicable law, we may contact you for these purposes by telephone or electronic message (e.g. email or SMS). We may also contact you by post from time to time, unless you have told us that you do not want to receive these communications. If you wish to update your Personal Data or opt-out of receiving further fundraising or marketing communications from us please get in touch at the address shown in the Contact section below;

  • administering any on-going donations or support you provide;

  • providing you with news about us or any projects, campaigns or events that we may be involved in;

  • where you have agreed to take part in a survey or research;

  • we may also occasionally use Personal Data for the purpose of profiling (see the Profiling section below).

We may also contact you for other purposes that you consent to from time to time.

Legal obligations

We aim to collect and process your Personal Data in accordance with applicable laws that regulate data protection and privacy. This includes but is not limited to national laws implementing the EU Data Protection Directive (95/46/EC), which was replaced on 25 May 2018 by the General Data Protection Regulation (2016/679).

Profiling

Please note that we may occasionally use Personal Data to conduct profiling of certain donors or to conduct analysis of our donor database or persons who have positively expressed an interest in attending one of our events. This will help us target communications with our donors in a more relevant, efficient and cost effective way, helping us reduce the chances of donors receiving inappropriate or irrelevant communications. To do this profiling we may cross-check certain Personal Data against public sources to get a better understanding of who our donors are. You can object to such use of your Personal Data for this purpose at any time by contacting us at the address shown in the Contact section below. Disclosing personal data to third parties

We never sell, trade or rent Personal Data. We do not disclose Personal Data to third parties without your consent unless we are legally required to do so or where we need assistance of third party data processors (acting under our instructions) who we may need to assist us to respond to your enquiry. We will take reasonable steps to ensure that Personal Data is only used by those third parties for specific, lawful purposes in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

International transfers

Personal Data that we collect will be processed by staff, volunteers and contractors who are based in the US. We have also contracted with a third party platform provider, Monday.com to manage our customer relationship management (‘CRM’) database. We also engage Microsoft Azure to help warehouse our data on the cloud. This means that your Personal Data may be hosted by Monday.com or Azure in the United States. Monday and Azure are each signed up to the EU-US Privacy Shield Framework which means that they are committed to protecting personal data to standards that meet those applicable legal standards in the EU. You should be aware that, in general, legal protection for personal data under applicable law in the United States (and other non-EU countries) may not be equivalent to the protection provided in the European Union and/or under UK law. In all cases, Personal Data you provide will only be disclosed to staff, volunteers and contractors who share our commitment to treating Personal Data responsibly and we always aim to make sure your Personal Data is treated to the same security standards you would expect in the EU.

Your access rights

In accordance with your legal rights under applicable law, you can request to receive information regarding the Personal Data that we collect about you; what we use that Personal Data for and who it may be disclosed to. Where applicable law allows, we may request a fee to cover our administrative expenses in responding and may also require further information to verify your identity or locate the specific information you seek before we can respond in full.

Security to protect personal data

We employ appropriate technical and organisational security measures to protect Personal Data from being accessed by unauthorised persons and against unlawful processing, accidental loss, destruction and damage. We also endeavour to take all reasonable steps to protect Personal Data from external threats. However, please be aware that there are always inherent risks in sending information by public networks or using public computers and we cannot 100% guarantee the security of all data disclosed or transmitted to us.

Data retention

We will retain certain Personal Data in respect of financial transactions for at least as long as the law requires us to for tax or accounting purposes. In respect of the holding of Personal Data for fundraising or direct marketing purposes, we will retain this data for a limited period in line with recommendations of the ICO and other competent regulatory authorities.
